The Season of Giving

6 Dec

So join the LB and give a little bit…

Today is CBC British Columbia’s Open House and Food Bank Day. This means that if you live in a city where there is a CBC broadcasting centre (like Vancouver), you can go check it out and see what they do (until 6pm tonight). You can watch the broadcasters in action, meet your favourite CBC personalities (*cough*George Stroumboulopoulos*cough*) tour the newsroom, and win prizes. All they ask in return is that you make a donation (big or small) to a BC food bank of your choice.

You can make a contribution to the Food Bank of your choice at the Open House, online anytime or call the pledge lines 1-866-226-4642 or 604-662-6470 on Friday December 6, 2013.

The LB is not exactly a food blog but food is a passion of mine. There’s also a lot of love for Vancouver in this corner of the internet. I’m fortunate enough that I don’t have to worry about how I’m going to get my next meal, but there are so many people in this city who struggle with that issue and this time of year can be particularly difficult.

If you’re reviewing your naughty and nice list before heading out to shop, keep in mind that a charitable donation is a perfect gift for those people on your Christmas list who (a) are a little too old for Santa, (b) generally buy themselves whatever they want or (c) don’t need any more stuff-for-the-sake-of-stuff.

And it feels good. So give a little bit today. Or tomorrow. Or whenever you can spare a few bucks. If you don’t live in BC, find out how you can donate to your local food bank. Google a little bit and then give a little bit. Here’s the link to Foodbanks BC again.

And then go get yourself some lunch!
